No Jobs, Long Term Unemployment a Sure Fire Recipe for Public Anger

Enough with the working class and middle class appellations.

There are only two classes in this country now, the haves-have more's and the rest of us struggling to make ends meet.

Those who have jobs are all working class whether blue, white, brown or any other color collar.   The rest are the wealthy few.

The struggling have nots are angry and that anger is aimed at the government, controlled by the corporations, part of those wealthy few.

They are righteously angry because this government has done very little to nothing about the economy and jobs, particularly long term unemployment.  It was the wealthy few financial industry that caused this economic disaster and corporations that offshored jobs with government acquiescence and strangled manufacturing in this country, and the government spouts rhetoric but no effective action to mitigate and overcome the unemployment crisis.

There is not a single 21st Century New Deal program in the works on Capitol Hill.

After eight years of struggling under Bush, regular Americans wanted and voted for change, not more of the same.

Mike Hall at Blog AFL-CIO writes: "Working America’s canvassers knock on some 25,000 doors a week in neighborhoods across the country to talk with working people about the economy, jobs, health care, Wall Street reform and more. And, says Working America Executive Director Karen Nussbaum.....

"Working people are mad about an economy that’s punished them with vanishing jobs and lost homes and rewarded Wall Street with bailouts and bonuses while they see a government that doesn’t seem capable of fixing what’s gone wrong or holding anyone accountable. Says Nussbaum:

" 'They’re worried about jobs, they’re angry at Wall Street and they don’t trust the government.' "

"People tell Working America organizers every day that jobs and job creation are their key concerns.

".....the best way Congress can win back trust is to

" 'get back to the business of creating jobs in this country, not just talking about it. We need to use Americans’ taxpayer dollars to invest in American jobs and America’s workers.' "

"Without that emphasis on jobs and job creation, says a briefing paper prepared for the forum:

" 'Economic populism is the hinge of the tipping point. If elected leaders don’t lead on jobs, people look rightward for economic answers.' "

Unfortunately, the Democrats in Washington appear to be more like Republicans.  They are not the party of FDR, Truman, Kennedy or Johnson but Wussacrats and DINOs.

Rank and file Democrats and regular American have to fight them as hard as the GOP for even a smidgen of governance and legislation for the common good.

FDR must be turning in his grave.
