Ink Not Dry on Health Care Bill and Insurance Companies are Already Thumbing Noses At Its Provisions and Screwing Consumers
But the Dems in Congress and the White House are still too busy enjoying recess and coming down from high fiveing their mediocre health care bill and ignoring reality.
Health insurance companies, that Obama and Congress made sure got tens of millions of new customers and beaucoup dollars, play only by their own rules without any competition or anti-trust regulation.
From Bill Sher at Blog for Our Future: "The NY Times reports today that insurance companies are prepared to interpret the new health care law so they can deny coverage to children with pre-existing conditions between now and 2014.
"Insurers are daring to do so even though congressional leaders have made clear such a loophole was not their intent, and the White House preparing implementation rules that would clarify the legislative language and prevent such discrimination.
"But what they would lose is their reprieve from the public health insurance option."
Don't
be too sure, Bill. Too many elected officials are controlled by the
industry, the Rube Goldberg bill is a perfect example of that.
Besides, what regulatory enforcement agency has been tasked as watchdog regarding the health care bill?
Health insurance companies are already worming their way our of or going around provisions in the health care bill?
The AFL-CIO blog gives and example:
"Starting Sept. 23, the bill will ban insurance companies from denying coverage to children with pre-existing conditions. But as The New York Times reports this morning, insurance lawyers are claiming the bill’s “fine print” allows them to refuse to cover children with pre-existing conditions such as asthma, diabetes, orthopedic problems, birth defects and other illnesses.
"That claim is “outrageous,” says Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.).
" 'The ink has not yet dried on the health care reform bill, and already some deplorable health insurance companies are trying to duck away from covering children with pre-existing conditions. This is outrageous.
"The new law says insurance companies “may not impose any pre-existing condition exclusion” in their policies covering children under age 19. The insurance companies assert the law only requires coverage for pre-existing conditions if a policy is sold and that it does not require access to a policy. In other words, insurance companies claim they can deny coverage for an entire family if one child is sick."Do you really expect us to believe that Capitol Hill and the White House are surprised that the greedy health insurance companies with whom they made unconscionable deals wouldn't continue to screw consumers? What planet are they on? That is just incompetence or complicity on the executive and legislators' part.
And from the Wonk Room: "....the industry will likely increase premiums to WellPoint-like levels in the near future.....
"Lawmakers will have to tweak the legislation over time, but insulating voters from steep premium hikes in the interim period is both good policy and good politics. "
You mean not one elected official in the White House or in Congress, including those who get the big bucks from the health insurance industry, didn't expect that these companies might continue to jack up premium costs to consumers especially before 2014 and did nothing to prevent it? Incompetent or complicit, which one is it?
