As Obama continues banging his head against a brick wall reaching out to obstructionist Republicans, the reality is that "bipartisanship" is hurting this country and its people.

The terrible policy of "don't ask, don't tell" should be abolished.  "In contrast with the US, gay people serve openly in British and other European forces and in the Israeli military."  Losing qualified people due to this discrimination should be unacceptable.

Since the beginning of this new century, US soldiers have died in Iraq and Afghanistan; now they're dying in Pakistan, too, where, officially, they are not supposed to be.

How Congress works: money that's now being used to build schools and restore tropical forests in a U.S. territory is being turned into what is essentially a $3 billion tax break for foreign rum maker; in the House it was buried in a larger tax bill; in the Senate could be essentially hidden in a jobs bill.
