Tim Kaine, DNC Chair, Has Overseen Losses In Virginia, New Jersey and now Massachusetts... Three Strikes and He Should Be Out
He asks, "Should Tim Kaine Be Fired?" And goes on to write: "....is Tim Kaine also the victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Yes and no. These elections definitely mean something. You could have dismissed Virginia as leaning conservative and New Jersey as unique in their anger at Corzine. But there is no excuse for Massachusetts. This is a national election for a senate seat, not a local governor's race with local issues. And three is an undeniable trend. Houston, we have a problem.
"Is it fair to blame that problem on Kaine? Well, results matter. When Howard Dean was the chair of the DNC, the Democrats were getting crushing victories. As soon as he left, the losses started piling up. Yes, circumstances also matter. When Dean was chair, it was easy to blame Republicans but now the Democrats own the national problems. Before the economy was the Republicans' problem, now it's the Democrats'.
"But tactics also matter. Tim Kaine seems to be running the reverse 50 state strategy - we can lose anywhere in the country. So, what's he doing wrong? He's gone back to the old days at the DNC, where all you do is raise money and hope that you can win without a message. This is principally the Rahm Emanuel strategy - cave in to lobbyists, collect their money, choke off Republican fundraising efforts by better serving corporate America and win elections by outspending the opposition. The only problem is that it doesn't work."
However,
the heart of the problem is that Tim Kaine, Obama's choice to head the
DNC is a DINO, not a true Democrat, which is the case with most of
those in the Obama administration and far too many of the Democrats on
Capitol Hill.
I wrote the following last October: "As for Tim Kaine, governor of Virginia for a few more weeks, we
currently have a part timer and DINO in charge of the DNC. Obama can
sure pick 'em.
"Kaine doesn't believe in women's reproductive rights, and was a cheerleader and avid supporter of Bush's invasion and occupation of Iraq. He backed the construction of Dominion Power's new coal fired plant, a blatant anti-environment stance. But, of course, Dominion contributed to his campaign and inaugural to the tune of six figures. And this anti-labor DINO is proud that Virginia is a right to work state!
"Instead of insisting on running on a Democratic ticket with a
Democratic female candidate for lieutenant governor, he ran a separate
campaign so, while he won the gubernatorial election in 2005, the GOP
took the lieutenant governor's post as well as the attorney general's
seat. The latter taken by right wing Repug Bob McDonnell now running
for governor.
"Kaine has been a lackluster governor, with a meager, pitiful
record. As titular head of the Democratic Party in Virginia, he has
done very little to expand the party base or identify and support real
Democrats for office. He is a conservative who has done diddly to help
progressive Democrats.
"That Obama seriously considered him for his vice-president is appalling.
"That Obama chose him as DNC chair says a lot about Obama and what he thinks of the Democratic Party.
"Perhaps it takes a DINO to put a DINO fox in charge of the Democratic Party hen house.
"Under Kaine: Strong Democratic Party RIP."
The problem is that the Democratic base has elected too many DINOs like Tim Kaine, a GOP lite who is definitely not a leader.
DINOs control the Democratic Party and make it damned hard for real Democrats, progressive Democrats to get on the ballot,
Until that changes, there will continue to be no FDR, Truman, Kennedy or Johnson Democratic candidates and more GOP like, phony Dems holding office and hurting the Democratic Party and regular Americans.
