GOP: the Obstructionist Party of No Integrity

The Republican Party keeps proving that it is the party of only government of, by, and for the wealthy few; the party of hypocrites; the party of bigots; the party of obstructionism; the party of no; and the party always against the common good.

In late January, all House Republicans voted against helping regular Americans by voting against Obama's stimulus package.

Now, House and Senate Republicans en masse refused to vote for Obama's budget last week.  (They were unfortunately joined by two Democratic in name only senatorial asshats.)

And Republican obstructionists in the Senate continue to block some of Obama's vital nominees.

As ThinkProgress reports: "Conservatives in Congress and in the media are attempting to block or delay a growing number of critical nominees for what amount to ideological witch hunts and self-interested horse-trading. As the President attempts to deal with the significant legal and logistical questions surrounding two wars, closing Guantanamo Bay, and caring for our nation’s veterans, the people Obama has picked to assist him with such issues are being forced to wait in the wings.

"In the last week alone, at least four separate nominees who thought they were on track to be approved will have to wait at least a few more weeks...."

Like Tammy Duckworth.

ThinkProgress continues: "Department of Veterans Affairs: Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) asked the Senate Veterans Affairs committee to delay voting on the “nomination of Tammy Duckworth, an injured Iraq war helicopter pilot, to be an assistant secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs.” Contacted by ThinkProgress, Burr’s Press Secretary, David Ward said that Burr is waiting for the answers to several questions he’s put to the White House and Duckworth, but would not disclose what those questions were."

DownWithTyranny describes Senator Burr "...North Carolina's obstructionist Senator Richard Burr's has on the nomination of Tammy Duckworth for a job in the Veteran's Affairs Department. Duckworth, who is universally recognized as one of the country's most forceful and effective advocates for vets when she ran the Illinois Veteran's Affairs Dept is a highly decorated officer in the National Guard who lost both legs in combat in Iraq. Maddow to Burr: 'How about diligently doing the right thing right now and picking a different high horse to ride in on, ok?'

"Burr, another garden variety Republican vet-hating war-monger and extremist, avoided the military because he was too busy selling lawn furniture for seventeen years and forging ties with the Big Business interests that would later finance his political career. He's on the Senate Armed Services Committee and is the ranking Repug on the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee. The only pro-war bill he ever opposed was on May 24, 2007, not because it made emergency supplemental appropriations for our military in Iraq, but because it also included appropriations to support efforts to save New Orleans (i.e., African Americans) from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. The bill passed 80-14 despite Burr's obstinate Jesse Helm's imitation."

And then there is Senator John McCain, typical bigoted Republican; as ThinkProgress explains: : "On March 11, Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), John Thune (R-SD) and Mel Martinez (R-FL) met with a group of Hispanic business leaders in the Capitol’s Strom Thurmond Room as part of an effort to reach out to Hispanic voters. National Journal is reporting that several participants in the meeting said McCain got “angry” while talking about immigration. At one point, McCain reportedly began referring to Hispanics as “you people“:

“He was angry,” one source said. “He was over the top. In some cases, he rolled his eyes a lot. There were portions of the meeting where he was just staring at the ceiling, and he wasn’t even listening to us. We came out of the meeting really upset.”

McCain’s message was obvious, the source continued: After bucking his party on immigration, he had no sympathy for Hispanics who are dissatisfied with President Obama’s pace on the issue. “He threw out [the words] ‘You people — you people made your choice. You made your choice during the election,’ ” the source said. “It was almost as if [he was saying] ‘You’re cut off!’ We felt very uncomfortable when we walked away from the meeting because of that.”

Let's add to the list in the first paragraph...the Republican Pary, the party of no integrity.
