Former Democratic Public Servants Who Deserve No Respect
It's not surprising about Republicans whose party's primary principle is government of, by, and for the wealthy few and how that can work to their advantage using the revolving Congress to lobbyist door.
But what about the Democratic hypocrites who traded their party philosophy of representing regular Americans as public servants for prostituting themselves to corporatism or anti-worker organizations for six and seven figures or more.
They are especially loathsome.
One of these is the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, supposedly a friend of unions and working people and the ultimate example of dishonoring the principles of the Democratic Party.
It was bad enough that he used his position in government to stand with Bush in support
of that criminal regime's illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq based on lies, but as a lobbyist it seems he will brown nose and represent anyone for big bucks.
Ken Silverstein has the report at Harper's Washington Babylon.
"Remember Dick Gephardt, the former House House Majority Leader, mortal foe of NAFTA and overall friend of the working class? He’s a lobbyist now of course, and his firm,Gephardt Group, has boomed following the Democratic takeover of congress. Revenues for the firm — which helps clients “improve Labor Relations, develop Political and Public Policy Strategies and enhance Business Results by gaining access to new markets or partners” climbed from $500,000 in 2007 to $1.5 million last year.
"Gephardt’s clients include Boeing, Goldman Sachs and Waste Management Inc. and just two days ago he signed up the U.S. Chamber of Congress. The disclosure form doesn’t say how much Gephardt will be paid and only vaguely describes what issues he’ll be working on. But it’s interesting to note that the Chamber is one of the leading opponents of the Employee Free Choice Act, which is the top legislative priority of Gephardt’s old friends in the labor movement."
Gephardt and former US senator and presidential candidate, George McGovern, certainly make a disgusting pair. These once respected public servants no longer deserve any respect whatsoever and every Congressional Democrat should close their doors to them.
