Burris & McGovern: What has happened to once respected public servants?

What is it with once respected Democratic politicians who, in the senior years, become idiots?  It is happening with two of them right now: Roland Burris and George McGovern.

Burris wanted Obama's vacated Illinois US Senate seat so badly that he made a Faustian-like bargain with a slimy former governor of that state's brother which ensured a permanent stain on his public service record and possible perjury charges to come.

Now the former 1972 Democratic presidential candidate, George McGovern, unfurls his anti-union, anti-Employee Free Choice Act banner and becomes the darling of the anti-worker, right wing GOP.

From Dave Weigel at The Washington Independent: "Former Sen. George McGovern (D-S.D.), whose opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act will win him that award at next weekend’s Conservative Political Action Conference.

"U.S. News and World Report noticed this nearly two weeks ago, but ThinkProgress spotlights it today to prove how effective a spokesman the 1972 Democratic presidential candidate has proven to be against EFCA.".

Are Burris and McGovern deliberately betraying ethics, morals and Democratic Party principles or are they both suffering from a mental problem that might explain their sad and disappointing actions?
