After Obama Concessions House Passed Stimulus Bill Without a Single GOP Member's Vote
Obama, in the name of so called bi-partisanship, removed contraception from the package and kept tax cuts in the bill to appease Republicans.
By the way, tax cuts for the wealthy or supply side economic tactics don't work, have never worked even during the Reagan "supply side" era when Reagan's failed tax cut policy was followed by a tax increase that was wrapped in silence by the GOP and co-operative Democrats and rarely heard about since then.
And in this current disastrous economic crisis, tax cuts for working people will go to pay their down personal debt and bills. It will not be spent to prime the economic pump by buying goods they can't afford. Tax cuts are not the way to stem a full scale Great Depression.
Anyway, after Obama spent his time courting the Republicans in the House of Representatives, how many GOP votes did he get for his stimulus bill....zero, none, nada!
As reported the San Francisco Chronicle: "President Obama won his first legislative victory as the House passed a $819 billion economic stimulus package Wednesday night, but his bid to woo Republicans failed to convince even a single GOP member to join Democrats to back the bill.
"Eleven Democrats joined the entire 177-member House GOP caucus in voting "no" - mostly conservative Democrats from swing districts that often tilt toward Republicans, where a vote for the costly package could prove a liability with voters already upset with the government's bailout of Wall Street firms.
"The 244-188 vote was the first key test for the measure, which Democrats said would help jumpstart the economy and create millions of new jobs with huge investments in education, health care, clean energy and aid to the states, including at least $32 billion for California."
Of course, the GOP House members who assisted Bush in helping to create this disastrous economic catastrophe offered an mindless alternate plan (as if they hadn't caused enough damage already): more tax cuts.
The only thing these whining Republican can repeat is tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts. They are absolute failures at governance and legislation for the common good, but experts at legislation of, by, and for the wealthy few.
Perhaps Obama has learned something about catering to the GOP inside the beltway, especially on Capitol Hill at the expense of regular people on Main Street.
That's not negotiating, that's b...s....
President Obama, concerning this economic debacle you inherited from the Bush regime about which you said Wall Street and Washington acted irresponsibly, you are too kind. Wall Street and Washington acted criminally and should be treated accordingly, not rewarded.
