Industry Pushing Myth of Clean Coal While Even More Unregulated Toxic Ash Piles Up
There is no such thing as clean coal.
No matter the lying clean coal PR push by the coal industry and the clean coal blather of politicians in both parties, especially those from coal producing states, try to peddle, clean coal does not exist.
Coal from coal fired plants contains carbon dioxide. Even if it could be scrubbed of carbon dioxide, there would remain sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury, arsenic, lead compounds, chromium compounds, hydrogen fluoride, and hydrochloric acid.
It's a toxic brew dangerous to human health and the environment.
And the waste products stored in holding pounds are poison that keeps polluting.
The Tennesee environmental and health disaster at Christmas that may take years to clean up was caused by sludge breaking through the dike.
This kind of disaster could occur elsewhere in the US.
From Yahoo News: "Millions of tons of toxic coal ash is piling up in power plant ponds in 32 states, a practice the federal government has long recognized as a risk to human health and the environment but has left unregulated."
Instead of eight years of progress in alternative energy, health and environmental protection, the GOP Bushites gave this country and its people almost a decade of regressive policies, putting heath and the environment in jeopardy, in order to support their cronies in the coal industry in making more profit.
The worst administration ever.
