Cheney Admits Approving Torture; Congress Remains Silent

It's appalling to me that Cheney, during an interview, can calmly, with his trademark smirk, admit that he approved of use of heinous torture policies, and Congress isn't readying impeachment.

Congressional leadership seems to be a spineless group of criminal enablers.

Torture is a crime, period.  Torture is a war crime.

And yet all the Senate Armed Services Committee did was issue a report that Donald Rumsfeld and other high ranking senior Bush officials are responsible for the torture of detainees at Guantanamo and elsewhere.

This collegial millionaires club is staring war crimes in the face and turning away.

Now Vice President Dick Cheney can be added to the list of torturers.

From the LATimes via CommonDreams: "Cheney's comments also mark the first time that he has acknowledged playing a central role in clearing the CIA's use of an array of controversial interrogation tactics, including a simulated drowning method known as waterboarding.

" 'I was aware of the program, certainly, and involved in helping get the process cleared,' Cheney said in an interview with ABC News.

Asked whether he still believes it was appropriate to use the waterboarding method on terrorism suspects, Cheney said: " 'I do.' "

The US hung Japanese after post WWII trials for waterboarding US prisoners of war.  Hung them, for heaven's sake for what Cheney is admitting with apparent impunity.

And Congress silently accepts Cheney's admission as if it were nothing.  What the hell is wrong with these elected representatives?

This criminal administration, in defiance of the law, has taken the US into the depths of depravity and inhumanity     Where is the accountability for their crimes?
