Bushites Absent At Cluster Bomb Ban Treaty Signing in Oslo

One of the hallmarks of the criminal Bush regime is defiance of international law like the Geneva Conventions which forbid torture, which is considered a war crime.

The US used to also before Dubya.  It even convicted those who tortured with waterboarding, captured and imprisoned American service members in WWII.

But now, thanks to the Bush presidency, the worst ever, the US has become a beacon of anti-rule of law.

Take the cluster bomb ban treaty.  No, said the US by its absence at the signing in Oslo, we like our cluster bombs.  We want to retain the right to incinerate or blow to pieces innocent men, women and children or at least maim them forever.

From The Guardian:  "Governments from around the world today began signing an international convention banning the production of cluster bombs, millions of which lie unexploded across dozens of countries and have killed and maimed thousands of civilians.

"At the Oslo signing ceremony, Norway, which has led the efforts to ban cluster munitions, was the first country to sign. It was followed by Laos, where cluster bombs dropped by US planes more than 30 years ago are still killing civilians; and Lebanon, which was attacked with the weapons by Israel.

"By the end of tomorrow, around 100 of the United Nations' 192 members will have signed up. Once 30 countries have ratified the convention, it will become part of international humanitarian law.

"There are a number of notable absentees, including the US, China, Russia, India and Pakistan, as well as Israel, which fired cluster bombs during the 2006 Lebanon war.

"Campaigners hope the treaty might help change global attitudes towards the munitions, as a 1997 treaty did on land mines, prompting some nations to sign up later."

Here's a chance for the Obama administration to sign the treaty because it's the right and honorable thing to do to help bring an end to these weapons, promote a semblance of peace and redeem the image and respect for the US that the Bush regime damaged during the eight years of his awful, unconscienable reign.
