Republican VP Candidate Continues To Lie About Health Care and Being Working Class

Before Sarah Palin's only debate prior to the election, her hypocrisy on health care is out there for all to see.

Just like mocking Biden for his age and then trying to cover up when called on the fact that her soulmate, running mate, J. Sid is older, Palin doesn't think carefully and prudently but instead charges ahead in that whiny, nasal twang that sets teeth on edge while unttering thoughtless inanities and hot air.

Sarah Lou pretends she's just regular working class folks but pulls in $250,000 in income, with a half a million dollar custom built home on a lake (three times the average price of homes in that town), two boats, two personal watercraft and one plane.

For example, Palin on health care as Wonk Room reports: "Yesterday, in an effort to portray herself as "an everyday working class American," Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) revealed that her family struggled to find health insurance "until Todd and I both landed a couple of good union jobs":

But yeah, there's been a lot of times that Todd and I have had to figure out how we were going to pay for health insurance. We've gone through periods of our life here with paying out of pocket for health coverage until Todd and I both landed a couple of good union jobs. Early on in our marriage, we didn't have health insurance, and we had to either make the choice of paying out of pocket for catastrophic coverage or just crossing our fingers, hoping that nobody would get hurt, nobody would get sick. So I know what Americans are going through there.

"Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) strong anti-union sentiment aside, "Palin is right to credit her and her husband's "good union jobs" with securing her family health insurance coverage." Union workers "receive more generous health benefits than nonunionized workers," contribute a significantly lower percentage of the premium than those in firms without any union workers, and are significantly more likely to receive health insurance.

"Unfortunately,McCain's health care plan, would throw 20 million Americans out of employer-sponsored coverage, leave 18 million Americans without health insurance by 2013, and increase "out of pocket" costs across the board. If Palin believes that she knows "what Americans are going through" because she was once uninsured, she will have many more Americans to sympathize with under the McCain-Palin health care plan."

Here is Palin's record on health care:

Palin Advocated Consumer-Driven Health Care. While running for governor, Palin attributed rising health care costs to "a lack of competition" and called for "flexibility in government regulation that allow competition in health care." [On The Issues]

Palin Introduced Health Care Transparency Act. Palin's Alaska Health Care Transparency Act established "an Alaska health care information office" to help consumers "make better-informed decisions about health care in the state." The act also called for the repeal of Certificate of Need Laws, programs "aimed at restraining health care facility costs and allowing coordinated planning of new services and construction." [Gov Tech, 1/28/2008; National Conference of State Legislatures,8/21/2008]

Palin Did Not Take A Position On Expanding SCHIP Funding. Palin did not advocate for greater federal funding of SCHIP. [Blagojevich Press Release, 2/23/07]

Palin Signed Watered-Down SCHIP Bill. Palin signed legislation updating eligibility for Alaska's SCHIP program, Denali KidCare, to maintain the eligibility level “which had dropped to an effective rate of almost 150 percent of the poverty line due to inflation. However, by limiting eligibility to families living below 175 percent of the poverty line, Alaska's eligibility criteria are still among the lowest in the nation. Palin did not support legislation to expand eligibility to higher levels. [National Conference of State Legislatures, 6/2008; Kaiser Network, 5/22/2007; Anchorage Daily News, 4/15/2008]

Palin Failed To Support A Bill To Cover All Alaskans. While governor, Palin "did not get behind the most significant piece of health legislation offered” a proposal to ensure that all residents have health insurance, without disrupting the coverage that many Alaskans already have." [Anchorage Daily News, 5/17/2008]

Palin Failed To Answer Question About Expanding Health Care Coverage and Walmart. While running for Governor, Palin "sidestepped a question from her audience about the wisdom of encouraging expansion in Alaska of Wal-Mart, a chain that has been criticized for offering low pay and few benefits." [Anchorage Daily News,1/30/06]

Sarah Palin is such a liar and hypocrite just like McSame and their clone Bush regime.  Her right wing reactionary, Republican mantra on health care is flying the finger at real working class Americans with the mantra: "Health care for me, but not for thee."
