Bush Politicized Agencies Continue To Disregard Consumer Food Safety

E-coli outbreak again, from a company that recently was involved in prior recall of beef.

Under the criminal Bush administration's politicized agencies, including food safety for consumers, the FDA and the US Dept. of Agriculture fail in oversight and protection of people in this country.

Headed by Bushite loyalists whose incompetence has become legendary, agencies' budgets were cut and necessary personnel for minimum oversight cut to the bone by theBush regime, while sickness and death due to tainted food has become a hallmark of this administration.

From the NYTimes"Federal authorities assured consumers last month that a meat plant linked to nearly 50 illnesses had made enough changes after a recall of tainted beef to ensure that its products were safe.

"Less than a month later, on Friday, the same processor recalled 1.2 million pounds of other beef products that might have sickened more than 30 people.

"The changes made after the first recall of meat processed by the plant operator, Nebraska Beef, affected only ground beef, a spokeswoman for the Agriculture Department, Laura Reiser, said on Saturday. But on Friday, the company recalled 1.2 million pounds of primal cuts, subprimal cuts and boxed beef made on June 17, June 24 and July 8.

"The products have been linked to illnesses in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvaniaand Virginia.

"A spokeswoman for the Department of Agriculture, Amanda Eamich, said on July 10 that federal officials were satisfied that Nebraska Beef had made enough changes to ensure product safety. Ms. Eamich said then that the plant would receive additional scrutiny in July, August and September to make sure the changes were made."

That's a pathetic excuse.  It's another characteristic of this administration that will do anything, including disregarding the safety, health, and lives of consumers, to protect the profit making of corporations."

And impeachment is still of the table.
