House Wussacrats Capitulate to Bush on FISA; Vote For Telecom Immunity
Wussacratic invertebrate members of the House ignored American voters who adamantly opposed warrantless wiretapping and telecom immunity and capitulated to Bush and his lawless minions passing H.R. 6304, or The FISA Amendments Act of 2008, by a vote of 293-129. These Democrats and Republicans shred the Fourth Amendment, approved warrantless wiretapping and immunity for telecoms spying without a warrant in this country.
These spineless Democrats put their stamp of approval on the anti-rule of law, anti-Constitution, authoritarian, imperialistic Bush. As Glenn Greenwald so aptly said: "[W]e’ll have a new law based on the premise that the President has the power to order private actors to break the law, and when he issues such an order, the private actors will be protected from liability of any kind on the ground that the Leader told them to do it — the very theory that the Nuremberg Trial rejected.”
The following Democrats trampled the Constitution, betrayed the American people, and sold their votes and whatever integrity they had to criminal corporations:
Ackerman, Altmire, Arcuri, Baca, Baird, Barrow, Bean, Berkley, Berman, Berry, Bishop (GA), Bishop (NY), Boren, Boswell, Boucher, Boyd (FL), Boyda (KS), Brown, Corrine; Butterfield, Cardoza, Carney, Castor, Cazayous, Chandler, Childers, Cleaver, Clyburn, Cooper, Costa, Cramer, Crowley, Cuellar, Davis (AL), Davis, Lincoln; Dicks, Donnelly, Edwards (TX), Ellsworth, Emanuel, Engel, Etheridge, Giffords, Gillibrand, Gordon, Green, Al; Green, Gene; Gutierrez, Harman, Hastings (FL), Herseth Sandlin; Higgins, Hinojosa, Holden, Hoyer, Kanjorski, Kildee, Kind, Klein (FL), Lampson, Langevin, Lipinski, Lowey, Mahoney (FL), Marshall, Matheson, McCarthy (NY), McIntyre, McNerney, Melancon, Mitchell, Moore (KS), Murphy, Patrick; Murtha, Ortiz, Pelosi, Perlmutter, Peterson (MN); Pomeroy, Rahall, Reyes, Richardson, Rodriquez, Ross, Ruppersberger, Salazar, Schiff, Scott (GA), Sestak, Sherman, Shuler, Sires, Skelton, Smith (WA), Snyder, Space, Spratt, Stupak, Tanner, Tauscher, Taylor, Thompson (MS), Udall (CO), Wilson (OH), Yarmuth.
Real Democrats should never forget the names of these Wussacrats who spit on the Constitution and its Fourth Amendment, beginning with the leadership, Pelosi, Hoyer, Emanuel, and Clyburn. Real Democrats must make sure that these pseudo Democrats' constituents are constantly made aware of their reprehensible vote and that true Democratic candidates must be encouraged and supported to run against them in their re-election bids and/or they are pressured to resign or retire.
As the ACLU commented: "No matter how often the opposition calls this bill a ‘compromise,’ it is not a meaningful compromise, except of our constitutional rights. The bill allows for mass, untargeted and unwarranted surveillance of all communications coming in to and out of the United States. The courts’ role is superficial at best, as the government can continue spying on our communications even after the FISA court has objected. Democratic leaders turned what should have been an easy FISA fix into the wholesale giveaway of our Fourth Amendment rights.
"More than two years after the president’s domestic spying was revealed in the pages of the New York Times, Congress’ fury and shock has dissipated to an obedient whimper. After scrambling for years to cover their tracks, the phone companies and the administration are almost there. This immunity provision will effectively destroy Americans’ chance to have their deserved day in court and will kill any possibility of learning the extent of the administration’s lawless actions. The House should be ashamed of itself. The fate of the Fourth Amendment is now in the Senate’s hands. We can only hope senators will show more courage than their colleagues in the House."
