Grand Obstructionist Party Proves Again It Controls the U.S. Senate

The Grand Obstructionist Party (GOP), the party of, by, and for the corporations and the super rich keeps voting against regular Americans and the common good.

From ThinkProgress: "The AP reports that Senate Republicans have blocked a plan to “tax the windfall profits of the largest oil companies. Democrats on Tuesday failed, 51-43, to get the 60 votes needed to overcome a GOP filibuster of the energy package, and bring the bill up for consideration.” Proponents of the legislation “said the huge profits enjoyed by the largest U.S. oil companies should be reined [in] with motorists paying more than $4 a gallon for gasoline and oil prices soaring well beyond $100 a barrel.”

Senate GOP members protect and support the gazillionaire oil companies by giving them the big bucks and the hell with the rest of us.

Also employing their despicable obstructionist tactics, "This morning, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on how recent Supreme Court decisions have restricted protections of American workers and consumers. Fulfilling their role as the Grand Obstructionist Party, Senate conservatives deployed an obscure parliamentary tactic to halt the hearing, as committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) explained:
This morning an all too familiar pattern was underscored when a hearing on a topic our Republican colleagues did not like was cut short, without warning, by an anonymous Republican objection. … I share the sentiments Senator Whitehouse expressed before recessing the hearing — this behavior is a disgrace to the Senate, and it is especially shameful given that the victims who traveled a long way to tell their stories to the Committee did not get a full hearing.
"Conservatives used the same technique yesterday to shut down a hearing on torture tactics used against detainees in U.S. custody.

Where is the Democratic leadership in the Senate?  Are they asleep at the wheel?  Why are the Democrats being blind sided by these Republican tactics?  It should be no surprise to them. Their GOP colleagues played dirty when they were in the majority and are again playing dirty as the minority. Don't the Dems know how to play offense?  Dems should have expected these GOP tactics.  Or are they too cosy with the GOP members of the 100 club?  Where are the Democratic parliamentary experts anticipating, thwarting, and defeating these GOP parliamentary shenanigans?  Hiding in the Senate cloak room?

Voters should remember the GOP and its contemptible tactics in Congress this November.
