Dubya and McBush: Champions of Multimillionaires and Ignorant About the Economy

The Shrub, who doesn't know much about the economy, just like his sycophantic clone, John Sidney McIgnorant, crowed in April about the pathetic tax rebates helping the economic debacle his administration, in great part, created with failed deregulated and unregulated laissez faire policies.

This from a Washington Post article in May: "Bush said the tax rebates, approved as part of a bipartisan $168 billion stimulus package this year, will help consumers cope with the rising cost of living and lift the country out of what he calls an "economic slowdown."

" 'Your rebate is on the way,' Bush said in remarks on the South Lawn of the White House before departing for an anti-malaria event and GOP fundraiser in Connecticut. 'This money is going to help Americans offset the high prices we're seeing at the gas pump and at the grocery store, and it will also give our economy a boost to help us pull out of this economic slowdown.'

"Eligible taxpayers may receive as much as $1,200 per couple and $300 per child under the stimulus package, and those who chose direct deposit will start seeing rebate funds in their bank accounts Monday. The first rebate checks will be mailed May 9, a week ahead of schedule, the administration said."

Don't believe a word this ignorant man says.  Those rebates were a terrible joke.

While the checks went out in May, unemployment went up in June.

From today's NYTimes: "The American unemployment rate surged to 5.5 percent last month, the government said on Friday, the biggest increase in more than two decades. The report was the latestsign that workers face a darker outlook even as they struggle to cope with the housing slump and high energy prices that have cut into their spending power.

"Employers also shed 49,000 jobs in May, the
Bureau of Labor Statistics said in a statement. Payrolls have shrunk every month this year, the worst losing streak since 2003. Manufacturers, construction companies and the retail sector were the hardest hit, as businesses struggled with lower demand and looked to cut costs.

Ethan Harris, the chief United States economist at Lehman Brothers, said, “The report suggests the trends in the labor market are quite weak.”

"Even employed Americans are feeling pressure. Salaries continued to shrink in May, after adjusting for inflation. Workers’ wages grew in May but at an anemic pace, with rank-and-file employees earning $17.94 an hour, on average. That was a 5 cent increase — or 0.3 percent — from April."

And McNitWit, showed his complete ignorance about the issue: "As ThinkProgress has previously noted, these comments contradict a claim McCain made last week, where he lauded the “great progress economically” during the past seven years of the Bush administration:
MR. COOK: You think if Americans were asked, are you better off today than you were before George Bush took office more than seven years ago, what answer would they give? […]

SEN. MCCAIN: I think if you look at the overall record and millions of jobs have been created, et cetera, et cetera, you could make an argument that there’s been great progress economically over that period of time. But that’s no comfort. That’s no comfort to families now that are facing these tremendous economic challenges.
"So therefore, despite all this “great progress,” Americans are still not “better off.” In order to explain this logical inconsistency, McCain has resorted to blaming it on the American public. On January, he said that economic problems were just 'psychological.' "

George the Dimwit is the Herbert Hoover of the 21st century. In addition, when Dubya's lips are moving, lies and ignorant statements come spewing.

J. Sid McBush, his clone for a Bush third term, would consign regular Americans, that is the majority of the population who aren't among the small percentage of elite, wealthy multimillionaires like himself whom he champions, to a permanent, suffering, hopeless underclass.
