Gitmo $12 Million Military Tribunal Complex a Waste of Taxpayers' Money

Serving as a microcosm for the the failure that is the political, anti-human rights,  anti-Constitution, illegal military tribunals at where-torture-began Guantanamo, the new site for the tribunals was not a success.

As the Miami Herald reports: "The Pentagon took its new $12 million war court complex out for a test run Wednesday with the arraignment of an alleged al Qaeda propagandist -- and the state-of-the-art facility failed.

"Observers in the gallery sat behind soundproof glass while the accused, Ali Hamza Bahlul, spoke and gestured to the judge at the start of the proceedings.

"But no sound was broadcast into the spectators' booth where international media, human rights observers, a Canadian diplomat and FBI agents were sequestered.

"Military escorts scrambled to halt the proceedings and notify the judge -- even as the accused offered hand-written notes to the court."

Though somehow not surprising, it was fitting that the debut of the new military tribunal complex was a failure.  However, it was definitely a waste of $12 million of American taxpayers' dollars spent on this illegal travesty of justice venue.
