Schumer, Rockefeller and Meek Ignore Americans Health Care Demands

I have written many times about the number of so called Democratic leaders in Congress (especially members of the millionaires club) who suffer from a permanent minority mind set disease following a decade of Republican control on the Hill which makes them spineless, regressive wusses, and protective of their corporate contributors rather than the common good.

Well, Senators Chuck Schumer (NY) and Jay Rockefeller (WVA) who haven't met a corporate lobbyist they didn't like and joined by Rep. Kendrick Meek (FL) a four year relative newbie who has contracted the disease, are good examples of how out of touch these Capitol Hill denizens are with regular working Americans and what they demand.

64% of Americans want single payer, government administered health care for all. More Americans do think the government can do a better job than private companies at helping hold down health care costs. 62% think the Democratic Party would improve the health care system and only 19% think the Republicans would.

However, as reported in The Hill"Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.), a member of Senate Democratic leadership and a key Hillary Clinton ally who also sits on the Finance Committee, said he is 'not sure we have the big plan on healthcare.”

“Healthcare I feel strongly about, but I am not sure that we’re ready for a major national healthcare plan,' Schumer said.

“ 'We all know there is not enough money to do all this stuff,' said Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), a Finance Committee member and an Obama supporter, referring to the presidential candidates’ healthcare plans. 'What they are doing is … laying out their ambitions.'

"Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-Fla.), a Clinton supporter who sits on the House Ways and Means Committee, said 'the money is not necessarily there right now' "

They seem deliberately ignorant, don't they?  Have none of them heard of HR 676 Medicare-For-All single payer universal health care?

Are these three nincompoops so controlled by corporate lobbyists that they refuse to see the forest from the trees?

David Sirota weighs in with his on target opinion:

"First and foremost, to those in Washington who say the nation should just wait for Washington to act on health care and wait for Democrats to win control of Congress and the presidency, this story exposes the glaring failure of that strategy - especially as states move forward into the breach. Health care reform has to be a dual effort - at the federal level and at the state level. And most likely, real reform is going to start in the states - in part, because Democrats in Washington are so afraid of their own shadow and bought off by Big Money interests that they are now acknowledging that they are not serious about fulfilling their health care promises.

"Second, you'll notice the right-wing arguments being made by Democrats in this piece. Schumer, like a reliable Fox News anchor, tells us that America isn't "ready" for national health care plan, despite polls over the last decade showing strong support for such a concept.

"Finally, this reminds us of the need for progressives to focus on building a social movement, rather than exclusively on winning elections. Democrats are effectively saying that no matter how many elections are won, they will not move forward on the most pressing domestic issue."

Notice that both Schumer and Meeks are Clintonites and sound like typical DLCers, that is, Republican lite.

HR 676 is already there.
Support it, pass it, and quit re-inventing the wheel.
