Feinstein and Mukasey, Such Irony
There was a bitter irony in Senator Diane Feinstein's questioning of Attorney General Michael Mukasey about John Yoo's memo that the Fourth Amendment had no applications to "domestic military operations."
Mukasey bobbed, weaved and tap danced around her question, his typical performance as Bush's protector.
In a post last month I wrote, "Michael Mukasey again spat on Congress, the Constitution, and the rule of law.
"He is just as bad as Gonzalez, possibly worse, because, even though smarter than Gonzalez, Mukasey remains Bush's Republican loyalist hack and thanks to Senators Feinstein and Schumer, became Attorney General where he continuously defies the Constitution"
"From Reuters, "U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey refused on Friday to pursue contempt citations issued by the House of Representatives against a current and a former White House aide for not cooperating in a probe of the firing of U.S. attorneys."
I wrote on 11/06/2007, "Democratic Senators Diane Feinstein and Chuck Schumer along with all the torture loving, the president is above the law Republican Bushite toadies on the Senate Judiciary Committee inflicted "worse than Gonzalez" Michael Mukasey on the American people by endorsing his nomination as attorney general and sending it to the full Senate for likely confirmation." (To read this and more posts about Mukasey, incompetent Dems, etc., just type "Mukasey" in the search feature of this site.)
Also from one of my posts last month, "Bush minion Mukasey doesn't know if waterboarding is torture (thus defying the Constitution and Geneva Conventions and ignoring war crimes' precedent and US history) and, as far as the FISA bill, Mike hasn't met a telecom company that shouldn't get retroactive immunity for breaking the law.
"This is the worst president and vice president, the worst Cabinet, one of the three worst Attorneys General, the worst administration and the most criminal in US history."
And from a January posting, "As Jonathan Turley, eminent law professor at George Washington University Law School, reminds us, "Attorney General Mukasey swore implausibly that he did not know what waterboarding is and, even when told, refused to acknowledge the various courts decisions defining it as torture. Since his confirmation, he has refused demands that he answer that question for the obvious reason that it would confirm that President Bush ordered criminal acts. (Underline added) Sen. Feingold has led this worthy but thus far fruitless effort. Mukasey will now head an investigation involving the very subject of waterboarding.
"The DOJ, headed by Mukasey, another Bushite lackey like Alberto Gonzalez, albeit a former judge, but, nonetheless, a King George toadie, egregiously equivocated about waterboarding being torture to protect his then boss-to-be and continues to protect his boss, the Shrub. Just like Gonzalez, he apparently thinks his duty as Attorney General is to Bush not the American people."
And last November, "Senators Diane Feinstein (D-CA) and Charles Schumer (D-NY) announced that they would be voting for Michael Mukasey for Attorney General. Mukasey refuses to admit that waterboarding is torture and believes in a unitary executive with President Bush above the law. These two senators are not real Democrats and don't deserve to be returned to the Senate. Unfortunately, Feinstein is ensconced in her seat for six more years and Schumer until 2010.
"As Glenn Greenwald put it so well, "Dianne Feinstein is the drained and Bush-enabling face of the 2007 Democratic Congress." To that should be added, a hypocrite.
"Senator Schumer should also be placed in that category. He is a champion of protecting Wall Street, especially private equity and hedge funds to the detriment of the typical American taxpayer and the country."
Michael Mukasey is the terrible Attorney General of the US thanks to Diane Feinstein (and Chuck Schumer). She is such a hypocrite and a Democrat in name only.
