KBR Responsible for Soldier's Electrocution Still Remains Contractor

At least twelve US military personnel have been electrocuted because of faulty and shoddy wiring at bases in Iraq since 2003. That is reprehensible and criminal.

Guess which war profiteering company was in charge of maintenance and inspection at a base where a soldier was electrocuted in January when he stepped into the shower?

KBR, the war profiteer supplying our troops with dirty water and spoiled food and up until last year, a subsidiary of Halliburton where Dick Cheney was CEO.  Two months after Cheney's appointment as CEO, a second shell company was established in the Cayman Islands where Halliburton and KBR avoided paying hundreds of millions in taxes by hiring workers through these shell companies in the Caymans

An article by James Risen in the NYTimes says, "Separately, Sergeant Maseth’s [electrocuted in January] family filed a lawsuit on Wednesday in a Pennsylvania state court against KBR, the defense contractor that had been in charge of inspecting the wiring at the base where he died.

"According to military documents obtained by the family’s lawyer, Patrick Cavanaugh of Pittsburgh, KBR told the Defense Contracting Management Agency that there were wiring problems in the building before Sergeant Maseth’s death, but nothing was done about them.

"In a letter sent Wednesday to Defense Secretary
Robert M. Gates, Representative Henry A. Waxman, the California Democrat who is the chairman of the House oversight committee, asked the Pentagon to cooperate in investigating reports that at least 12 soldiers and marines, including Sergeant Maseth, had been electrocuted in Iraq because of shoddy wiring and construction at bases housing American military personnel.

"Aides on Mr. Waxman’s committee said Wednesday that they had received reports of 12 electrocution deaths of members of the United States armed services since 2003. Virtually all appear to have been caused by shoddy wiring and electrical grounding and design, but the Congressional investigators said they did not know if any of the other cases involved the same contractors or military bureaucratic problems that were at issue in Sergeant Maseth’s death."

According to Risen, the mother of the dead sergeant who was electrocuted and his twin brother still serving in Iraq said, " 'I would like to have questions answered around Ryan’s death, why his building wasn’t grounded, why repairs weren’t done when they knew there was a problem,' Ms. Harris said. 'I would like to have questions answered about who is accountable. And I would like to know that this can’t happen again to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.' ”

The American people should be angry at this administration because almost 4,000 US troops have died in Bush's invasion and occupation of Iraq based on lies.  But soldiers' deaths caused by war profiteers' malfeasance, fraud, and lack of accountability while they continue to remain Pentagon contractors receiving billions of taxpayers' money in no bid contracts and/or a Bush politicized Pentagon should bring down the wrath of the American people on all their heads.

Bush, Cheney, the rest of their war profiteering cronies and Bushite appointees at the Pentagon should have been in the slammer a long time ago.

And impeachment is still off the table.
