Pentagon Inspector General Finally Confirms KBR Supplied Troops with Dirty Water
It took the Defense Department's Inspector General all this time to investigate and report on KBR's poisoning our troops with dirty water between March, 2004 and February, 2006!
According the AP article the IG's report states: "...it said KBR's water quality 'was not maintained in accordance with field water sanitary standards' and the military-run sites 'were not performing all required quality control tests.' "
Bloggers have been writing about this for a long time and it takes the politicized Pentagon two more years to issue a report.
Hell, yes; considering that KBR was part of Cheney's former company until last year and is one of the Bush/Cheny corporate crony war profiteers defrauding the American taxpayers while badly serving, for top dollar, our US military in Iraq and Afghanistan. KBR, is also a defense contractor that condones the rape and sexual abuse of female employees; the company which, under Cheney as CEO, stopped paying US federal taxes by hiring employees through offshore shell companies.
Paul Riekhoff wrote at The Huffington Post in March, 2006, ""KBR had exposed the entire camp to water twice as contaminated as raw water from the Euphrates River. KBR was apparently taking the waste water... which should have been dumped back in the river, and using that as the non-potable water supply. Such problems had been happening for more than a year... No trained water treatment specialist could claim that the water was fit for human use."
"That's from Senate testimony of a former Halliburton employee, Ben Carter, a water purification specialist. He's talking about water purification at Camp Ar Ramadi, home to thousands of US Troops in Iraq. Ben Carter tried to sound the alarm back in March of 2005, telling his higher-ups at KBR that they were leaving the water supply 'vulnerable to contamination from dust, insects, rodents, or even enemy attack,' but KBR wasn't interested in admitting the severity of the problem to the Troops who had been affected.
"Today, an AP story shows that the problem wasn't just at Camp Ar Ramadi. KBR allowed dangerously polluted water to reach US Troops throughout Iraq. Wil Granger, one of the KBR whistleblowers, says, 'This event should be considered a 'near miss' as the consequences of these actions could have been very severe resulting in mass sickness or death.'
"And people did get sick."
This is just one of the horror stories about Bush, Cheney and former SecDef Donald Rumsfeld and their disastrous policy of privatizing the military. While their profiteering buddies fraudulently and with deliberate lack of government oversight rake in the dough, these greedy traitors supply our military personnel with dirty water and spoiled food. It's been one catastrophe after another caused by this bozo's administration.
Let's see how angry Democratic leadership on Capitol Hill will get about this; blustering and ranting and, in the end, doing nothing effective.
And impeachment is still off the table!
