House Dem Leadership Plans To Lie About FISA
Another horror story about constitutional privacy violations, courtesy of a whistleblower or else the public wouldn't know.
From Wired, "A U.S. government office in Quantico, Virginia, has direct, high-speed access to a major wireless carrier's systems, exposing customers' voice calls, data packets and physical movements to uncontrolled surveillance, according to a computer security consultant who says he worked for the carrier in late 2003.
" 'What I thought was alarming is how this carrier ended up essentially allowing a third party outside their organization to have unfettered access to their environment,' Babak Pasdar, now CEO of New York-based Bat Blue told THREAT LEVEL. 'I wanted to put some access controls around it; they vehemently denied it. And when I wanted to put some logging around it, they denied that.'
"Pasdar won't name the wireless carrier in question, but his claims are nearly identical to unsourced allegations made in a federal lawsuit filed in 2006 against four phone companies and the U.S. government for alleged privacy violations. That suit names Verizon Wireless as the culprit."
Is Congress concerned? It seems not as Democratic leaders and Blue Dog Dems continue their machinations to cave to King George on retroactive telecom immunity while figuring out ways to pretend they didn't.
As Glenn Greenwald writes, "As has been expected for a week now, the House Democratic leadership has prepared and is now currently circulating (while trying very hard to keep it confidential) their so-called "compromise" FISA bill. Their soon-to-be-unveiled bill, unsurprisingly, is designed to give the White House exactly what it has demanded, with only the smallest and most inconsequential changes."
Current House Democratic leadership, with their Capitol Hill minority imprinted mind set; damaging-to-regular-people longevity in Congress; and with disdain for their Democratic base, will try and spin to the base that they did not cave to Bush and trample on the Constitution.
New, true Democrats should run against these worthless elected officials who are harming the Democratic Party and enabling this criminal president and his partners-in-crime corporate cronies to continue to damage this country.
And these worthless officials deliberately keep impeachment off the table.
