Bush OK With Dangerous Infrastructure and His Disastrous Economy
At a meeting with King George the Lesser, governors appealed to him to increase spending on public works such as replacing decaying infrastructure, like bridges and roads, that get a grade of D+ by the American Society of Civil Engineers, and which would stimulate the current Bushite induced disastrous economy.
Bush says NO. He would rather stick to a flawed, pseudo-stimulus package that gives insignificant tax rebates to encourage consumer spending which it definitely won't since typical hardworking American are struggling to pay down their Bushite encouraged debts and he gives tax breaks to business which is a disincentive right now.
The NYTimes reports, "Asked about the president’s response, Gov. Christine Gregoire of Washington, a Democrat, said: 'I think I can summarize his remarks best by saying he did not think he would be interested. He wants to see the results of the stimulus package that was just passed.'
'There are tens of billions of dollars of infrastructure projects ready to go,' Mr. Rendell said. 'I asked the president if he would support spending on those projects as part of a second stimulus package, and he said no.'
"Rather than asking for an increase in federal highway spending, Mr. Turmail said, governors should seek additional money from the private sector, including pension funds and investment banking concerns".
Always pushing privatization, this Bush flunky hews to the Bushite line, despite the current mortgage and financial crisis caused by Bushite cronies' greed. Mr. Turmail, like all Bushites, wants states' to seek money from investment banking concerns to prop up and rescue the almost unregulated, done in by their own avarice financial market.
Bush is Bush, as usual. No public works projects to replace dangerously old infrastructure like bridges and roads that would also provide work for jobless Americans. The words, public and common good, are anathema to him. He prefers the photo ops of him standing on what's left of collapsed bridges that killed people.
However, while Bush maintains his Republican corporate, right wing stance against the public good, Barack Obama understands the common good and the economic and infrastructure crisis.
As the Times reports, "In his campaign for the Democratic nomination, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois has said he wants to spend $60 billion on roads, bridges and other public works over the next 10 years."
This is just one of the many Democratic solutions to cleanse the country of Bushite stink and move forward with change.
Meanwhile, impeachment should still be on the table.
