Reagan Redux
I happened to catch the McCain campaign commercial which claims him as the Reagan revolution legatee while Romney on the campaign trail talks about the sainted Ronald and implies he is Reagan's successor. They are dueling for the Reagan mantle as I wrote a few days ago in a post titled "Reagan Wannabe's Are Dangerous."
In that post, I linked to The Existentialist Cowboy's article about the incompetent Reagan and he has followed up with another excellent piece that defends against Republican Reaganite revisionist history.
The opening paragraphs explain the reality of the disastrous Reagan years, the vacuous state of the GOP as exhibited by its candidates McCain and Romney, clinging to the Reagan albatross just as they cling to Bush's failed policies.
"Bush leaves in his wake a divided GOP, reduced to summoning up the corpse of Ronald Reagan about whom his party will tell you the same old lies, the same old GOP propaganda. This is to be expected from a party that regurgitates the same failed policies, the same old formulae. Whomever gets the GOP nod will use Reagan's name a lot. Short on results, short on heroes, short on truth, the GOP noise and propaganda machine can be counted to invoke Reagan's ghost as Giuliani summoned up the specter of 911. Give these poor schmucks a break! A glossed-over, revisionist memory of Reagan is all this miserable, morally bankrupt party has left.
"The truth is Reagan failed this nation in three significant areas --the economy, the prospects for world peace, and a case of treason: Iran-Contra."
The article also includes statistics, a brief list of historical facts that shows why Democratic presidents beat Republican presidents in governance every time, and a list of the fallacies that Republicans believe.
Go give it a read. The Reagan years were the foundation for Bush I and Bush II. It's why this election is so important after eight years of Dubya created hell for the American people and the world.
