Bushite Mukasey Set To Spin Again For Senate Judiciary Committee
Attorney General Michael Mukasey's prepared remarks to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday contain nothing about waterboarding or the CIA torture tapes. No surprise there. He is just another Bushite loyalist lackey.
The Attorney General's job description: As head of the Department of Justice and chief law enforcement officer of the federal government, the attorney general represents the United States in legal matters and advises the president and executive department heads of the Government. The attorney general appears to represent the government before the U.S. Supreme Court in cases of exceptional importance.
The Attorney General is supposed to represent the United States, not the president personally. However, Bush's Attorneys General, Ashcroft, Gonzales, and now Mukasey, King George's genuflecting courtiers, seem to believe the AG is the personal attorney to the above-the-law president; heck with of, by, and for the people United States. They must protect their king at all costs.
As I wrote a few days ago:
From the NYTimes, "Attorney General Michael Mukasey said Friday he doesn't plan for a special prosecutor to investigate whether the CIA broke the law when it destroyed videotapes of terror interrogations, defying some in Congress who want an independent look at the politically charged case.
"Mukasey, in a 41-minute briefing with reporters, also ducked repeated questions about whether he considers waterboarding a form of torture -- an issue expected to be at the top of the agenda when he appears next week in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee."
And who consented to this almost as terrible as Alberto Gonzalez, protecting Bush trumps the Constitution, Republican lackey, Michael Mukasey? Democratic Senators Diane Feinstein (CA) and Chuck Schumer (NY).
I wrote on 11/06/2007, "Democratic Senators Diane Feinstein and Chuck Schumer along with all the torture loving, the president is above the law Republican Bushite toadies on the Senate Judiciary Committee inflicted "worse than Gonzalez" Michael Mukasey on the American people by endorsing his nomination as attorney general and sending it to the full Senate for likely confirmation. (To read this and more posts about Mukasey, incompetent Dems, etc., just type "Mukasey" in the search feature of this site.)"
So, just as we have spineless Senator Harry Reid to thank for the FISA telecom retroactive immunity fight on the Senate floor; we have irresponsible Senators Feinstein and Schumer to thank for continuing business as usual at the Bushite politicized Justice Department: shielding Bush and his cronies from war crimes as well as other criminal acts, defying the Constitution, and bending or ignoring the rule of law.
Reid, Feinstein, and Schumer are not true Democrats.
