Instead Of Bush's Economic Stimulus Plan - Let's Have Health Care For Every American
In the usual spirit of Republican partisanship and bypassing Congress, Bush and his administration Bushites announced a plan for a $100 billion in one-time tax rebates supposedly to stimulate the economy.
Bush, of course, makes certain these are tax rebates to corporate cronies who have already made out like bandits. His rebates for "individuals" undoubtedly will be targeted disproportionately to his have's and have more's, not the don't have's who need it.
Bush and his lackeys caused this economic disaster with his invasion and occupation of Iraq and tax cuts for the wealthy 2% and other disastrous policies. So the American people are supposed to trust them with a solution? Fat chance.
Meanwhile, theNYTimes reports that the Democrats on Capitol Hill, "...are drafting a package that would cost about $100 billion and is likely to include one-time tax rebates for workers, expanded unemployment benefits and other measures aimed at middle-income and low-income people who are most likely to spend any extra money immediately."
Even though Bush stiffed Congress by his announcement, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is already making cooing noises about bipartisan negotiations, while calling Bush's recognition of the need for an economic stimulus, "significant progress." Cow pies and horse patooties!
Wake up, Nancy! This president and his gang of thieves caused this economic disaster and you're trying to stroke his already inflated ego while pretending this debacle has nothing to do with him and his administration! His belated "recognition" is a desperation measure to try and save Republicans from huge losses in this election year.
Here's an idea for you and the rest of the so called Democratic leadership on the Hill and for the Democratic candidates.
Take the proposed $100 billion and use it to prime the pump of the single payer, universal health care bill, H.R. 676, Medicare for all. That $100 billion infusion will begin to relieve Americans of one of the biggest drains on their already thin pocketbooks, almost unaffordable health care. It would at last give them the security to know that their health care is covered and they can spend on other necessities which will help to start taking the country out of this recession.
This would finally bring the United States into the 21st century in line with the rest of the industrialized world with single payer, universal health care while helping mitigate the effects of this Bush recession.
