Another Bushite In Action - Ret. Gen. Tommy Franks Gets Paid By "F" Rated Veterans Charity

Poor Tommy Franks.  According to ABCNews via Think Progress, "Retired U.S. Army Gen. Tommy Franks, who led the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, was paid $100,000 to endorse a veterans charity that watchdog groups say is ripping off donors and wounded veterans by using only a small portion of the money raised for veterans services, according to testimony in Congress today.

"Gen. Franks' involvement was revealed as members of Congress questioned Roger Chapin, who operates Help Hospitalized Veterans and the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes Foundation, charities that congressional investigators say spend only 25 percent of the money they raise on projects for wounded veterans.

"The charities were graded "F" by the American Institute of Philanthropy because so little of the money is used for actual.

"Congressman Waxman said Gen. Franks had since disassociated himself from Chapin's charities and asked that his name be removed from the solicitation."

Retired General Franks, was, of course, another Bush toady in the Iraq invasion and occupation debacle and "strongly criticized for his closeness to Donald Rumsfeld and his lack of pre-invasion planning for Iraq," according to ThinkProgress.

Franks' disdain for the Constitution was also evident in his jaw dropping statement in an interview that "if another terrorist attack occurs in the United States 'the Constitution will likely be discarded in favor of a military form of government.' "

Franks oath to protect and defend the Constitution seems to have meant as much to him as it does to his former commander-in-chief who claimed it was only a goddamned piece of paper.

Two questions about this incident with Tommy Franks the Bushite:

1) If this veterans "charity" was legitimate why didn't Franks offer his endorsement gratis, or was he that greedy?  If he didn't investigate the legitimacy of this "charity" before his endorsement, it sure echoes his lack of pre invasion planning for Iraq.  Perhaps $100,000 was enough evidence of legitimacy for him.

2) Since he has disassociated himself from this charity and asked that his name be removed from the solicitation, did Franks return the $100,000 or give it to another legitimate charity?  That wasn't mentioned in the story.

This rip-off charity also paid retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Arthur "Chip" Diehl $5,000 dollars a month for his endorsement.

Way to go Tommy and Chip!  Such compassionate conservative concern for veterans!  Such integrity!
