Different Justice for Marion Jones and Karl Rove

Marion Jones, Olympic track and field winner, her medals now relinquished, was sentenced to six months in jail for lying to federal prosecutors.

According to the New York Times, "It was not Jones lying about drug use that forced her to accept plea deals from the government.Jones’s pleas were triggered by her involvement in the bank-fraud scheme....The strength of the government’s evidence in that case was used to persuade Jones to plead guilty to the false statements to federal prosecutors...."

While not excusing what Jones did and the fact that she could have been incarcerated for five years, it's too bad she didn't have Republican Patrick Fitzgerald, the Republican Scooter Libby case prosecutor who questioned Republican Karl Rove, as the government's advocate in her case.

Karl Rove lied to investigators and the grand jury more than once about his role in outing Valeria Plame, a covert CIA agent, which can be a treasonous offense.

After all, as the eminent George Washingon University law professor, Jonathan Turley, pointed out, "Fitzgerald’s investigation later showed significant holes and seemed to struggle to give possible targets like Karl Rove endless opportunities to get his sworn testimony right in repeated appearances before the grand jury."

Marion Jones suffers shame and ignominy and asks for forgiveness.  Rove suffers no shame or ignominy and continues with his lies and hypocrisy, protected by his Bush and Republican connections, while still appearing in the media as a political guru, treated with respect he does not deserve.

But, whose crime is more heinous?

There seems to be one justice for the Marion Jones' of the US and another for Republicans and Bushites like Karl Rove, especially in Bush's politicized Justice Department.
