FDA a Bush Clone On Cloning

The Union of Concerned Scientists issued this warning about cloned animals in their latest press release"Although successful clones may appear normal.....the possibility remains that some may harbor subtle genetic defects that could impair their health or render them unsafe for consumption..... the FDA should require that cloned products be labeled as such and keep them off the market at least until it establishes a mandatory tracking system to allow retailers to avoid purchasing the products."

The organization's press release is in answer to the FDA's expected announcement this week that meat and milk from cloned animals poses no public health threat.

Yeah, right.

Bush's politicized, collusive corporate protector, the-hell-with-the-consumer, FDA, also known as the Fraud and Drug Administration, has a terrible track record.  George the Shrub has gutted government regulatory agencies like the FDA and appointed political loyalists like former FDA head, Lester Crawford, a veterinarian and right wing ideologue in charge.  The current commissioner seems to be embroiled in controversy, also.

Under the Bush administration, the FDA has been a scandal ridden...Vioxx, poisonous pet food, etc.... ineffective, disinterested in protecting consumers but a pit bull when defending corporate cronies agency.

Just as Bush's imperial presidency ignores Congress, an equal branch of government, so too does the Bushite FDA blow off Congress on cloning.

According to a Washington Post article,
"The decision would be a notable act of defiance against Congress, which last month passed appropriations legislation recommending that any such approval be delayed pending further studies. Moreover, the Senate version of the Farm bill, yet to be reconciled with the House version, contains stronger, binding language that would block FDA action on cloned food, probably for years."

Bush and the FDA's message to the American people, "You're on your own, suckers."
