Of DINOs And Republican Wannabes
Yesterday, I wrote a post about a New Year's resolution for Americans who care about their country.
Included was this suggested reason for why Bill Clinton covered George H.W. Bush's posterior regarding investigations of Papa Bush and other Republican officials' probable criminal acts, "Bill Clinton wanted to shake off any populism that remained from his first campaign and exchange it for membership in the elite trampling-on-the-Constitution-we-know-better-than-the-masses club which included George H.W. Bush."
From a Washington Post Capitol Briefing blog of February 2, 2007, came this, "Clinton told [newly elected] House Democrats not to over-reach in their ambitions, not to go too far in their priorities and to instead accept compromises with President Bush on small initiatives that show they can govern effectively......Instead, Clinton wants current Speaker Nancy Pelosi (R-Calif.) [sic] to lead her Democratic caucus in a unified manner, particularly on the major issues, but to also accept compromise as long as it moves the ball forward."
Mr. DLC Bill Clinton's advice was as wrong last winter as his claim that he was against the Iraq invasion and occupation from the very beginning and Pelosi and Reid seem to have become Clinton lemmings.
These synthetic Democratic leaders remain thick as a brick that either the Republican version of compromise is Democrats give, Republicans take, or the word or deed of compromise does not exist in the mind or actions of King George or the Republicans in Congress.
Republicans on the Hill were Bush rubber stamps as the majority and now, as the minority, they continue as obstructionist, filibustering Bush water carriers running rings around the so called Democratic leadership who have compromised their Democratic values and campaign promises to the electorate in order to placate Bush and his Capitol Hill cohorts ad infinitum et nauseum.
Digby notes in her post, "Bipartisan Zombies," "But it's depressing that so many Democrats still seem to have this deep conceit that the Republicans are really reasonable people in spite of fifteen long years of being shown otherwise over and over again."
During Republican administrations and/or majorities on Capitol Hill, bipartisanship and compromise no longer exist and are forgotten by the corporate media. But when Democrats are in the majority or win the presidency, then, suddenly, the hypocritical Republicans and their enabling DINOs, joined by the ersatz media start clucking about compromise and bipartisanship.
Bill Clinton seems to be a charter member of that " bipartisan zombie" club. With Bill and Mark Penn, the latter a DINO and both triangulators, as important members of Hillary's campaign inner circle (as Penn was with Bill's), what can we expect from Hillary?
