Take the New York Times Torture Tape Article With a Grain of Salt
I read the Sunday New York Times article, "Tapes by C.I.A. Lived and Died to Save Image" last night and whose name should appear midway down the first page but, A.B. Krongard, former number three at the C.I.A.
A.B. "Buzzy" Krongard is the infamous brother of infamous Howard "Cookie" Krongard, former State Department Inspector General who tried to protect Blackwater. Cookie said Buzzy didn't sit on Blackwater's board but had to recant his testimony to a Congressional committee after a phone call. Never did have the Cookie and Buzzy show in front of the committee!
Using "Buzzy" as a source should warn the reader to greet the NYT article with skepticism; a very large grain of salt. When former CIA operative, John Kiriakou spilled the beans and insisted that the authority for the torture taping reached into the White House, it was Katie bar the door.
The article seems to imply that all the blame lies with the C.I.A. while reinforcing the White House denial of Bush and cohorts deeper involvement in the torture tape debacle. It smells like the White House was using the Times to cover their posteriors.
Scott Horton at Harper's apparently agrees and offers good analysis on the subject.
And impeachment is still off the table.
