Bali Conferees and UN Rapporteur Smack The US
The United States got smacked at the Climate Change Conference in Bali and by the UN special investigator for Human Rights about torture at Guantanamo.
Agence France Presse reports the results of US arrogance when Paula Dobriansky, the senior US negotiator, stated, " [It] doesn't seem it's going to be reflected in our outcome here in the declaration," she said, explaining why the United States would reject the draft.
"Dobriansky was loudly booed by other delegations, and a US environmental activist representing Papua New Guinea said to rousing cheers: "If you're not willing to lead, please get out of the way.
"After repeated verbal lashings, Dobriansky again took the microphone and said that Washington would 'go forward and join consensus,' to the cheers of the conference."
However, vigilance is called for here. The anti-environment Bush administration is not to be trusted, especially given that they tried to throw a kibosh on the conference in Bali. When their lips are moving they are usually lying. Bush and his henchmen and women are greedy corporatist freeloaders who care absolutely zilch about global warming and climate change and the kind of environmental legacy left to future generations.
Then the US got smacked by the UN. Martin Scheinin, U.N. special rapporteur on protecting human rights, suspects the CIA of torturing detainees at Guantanamo and many detainees will not have their day in court because of the US fear that proof of this torture will emerge in testimony.
He states further, "The destruction of video tapes on CIA interrogations is one more argument that supports the contention that the CIA has been involved and continues to be involved in the use of interrogation techniques that violate the absolute prohibition against torture...."
Other nations of the world: Keep smacking George the Lesser, Dick the Mean and their torturing, anti-environmental, climate change denying courtiers. The majority Democratic led Congress doesn't seem to want to seriously do it since impeachment is "off the table."
