With Dems Like These.....
The New York Times editorial said, ".....we are tempted to double-check that the Democrats actually won control of Congress last year. It was particularly hard to tell last week." How true, how pathetic, how frustrating, how disappointing, and how predictable.
Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, instead of honoring and supporting Senator Chris Dodd's hold on the terrible retroactive immunity for telecoms FISA bill that passed out of the Senate Intelligence Committee, plans to bring it to the Senate floor in a stunning disregard for constitutionally protected liberties, rule of law, and Senate tradition. Reid seems to approve of warrantless surveillance and amnesty for telecoms. Is this man really a Democrat? He certainly has proven by his actions that he should not be a Democratic Party leader.
Reid, like the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. cowers and grovels when Bush and Republicans show any displeasure, because he lacks the courage, strength, and vision of true Democrats like FDR, and Robert Kennedy. In 1965, Senator Robert Kennedy (D-NY) spoke out against retroactive immunity for lawbreaking corporations, in circumstances almost identical to the current telecom and warrantless surveillance scandals.
Senator Harry Reid and Senator Jay Rockefeller, chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, have both received generous donations from telecoms. That could be why they seem to care more for their corporate contributors than the Constitution and rule of law.
